2023 Reflection into Vision 2024

In this blog post I share a play out of my playbook of how I reflect on the past year and create my Vision Board for the new year.

As people and leaders, the responsibilities and challenges we face are both dynamic and ever-evolving. As we stand at the threshold of a new year, it's not only a time for resolutions but also an opportunity for deep reflection and intentional planning. In years past I used to set my #OneWord to ground myself for the year (you can see old blog posts that highlight those) which I always love seeing other people I’m connected with that choose and live out their #OneWord. Other people set out in setting generic resolutions. Last year I tried something new and I shared it in a blog post (you can read here). That brings me to doing it again this year and I want to share it with you more deeply this year. So, let's embark on a more immersive and visually impactful journey—creating a Vision Board for 2024.

Reflection

Before diving into the creative process of crafting your vision board, take a moment to reflect on the experiences and lessons of 2023. Consider the milestones achieved, the hurdles overcome, and the growth attained. Acknowledge the areas where you thrived and those that presented challenges. Reflecting on the past provides valuable insights that will shape your vision for the future. Personally, as I reflect on my Vision Board from 2023 there were areas I fell short, others I pivoted, and others I was very successful in. I didn’t hit all of my fitness goals but I surpassed others. I didn’t get my manuscript done but I did gain a much deeper clarity in where I am going with it. I pivoted in areas in my career and DIY house projects that led me into a whole new home instead. My journey of balance I have to say I absolutely crushed this past year. All of this reflection will lead me as I begin crafting a new vision.

Why a Vision Board?

A vision board is a powerful tool that combines imagery, words, and symbols to represent your aspirations, goals, and intentions. It serves as a visual manifestation of your dreams and ambitions, fostering a deep connection between your conscious and subconscious mind. Creating a vision board allows you to articulate your mission, values, and the impact you aspire to make. I love being able to look at mine constantly and being able to simply glance at the different pieces of it to keep me grounded within it.

Crafting Your Vision

By crafting a Vision Board for 2024, we set the stage for a purposeful and transformative year ahead. This reflective and intentional approach not only aligns with our goals but also promotes a holistic well-being that extends to our mental and emotional health. My own Vision Board for 2024 and the steps to creating one are at the bottom of this post for your viewing pleasure.

Should you take my approach or another, may your vision and method for 2024 serve as a guiding light, inspiring you to lead with passion, resilience, and a commitment to the betterment of yourselves and those you are connected with in 2024.

Steps to Creating Your Vision Board:

  1. Set the Stage: Start by creating a serene and focused environment. Find a space where you can immerse yourself in reflection without distractions.

  2. Determine Your Display & Gather Materials: Collect images, quotes, and any other materials either digital or physical however you are choosing to create this that resonates with your vision. Additionally, you may want to include personal mementos, such as photographs or items with sentimental value.

  3. Define Your Focus Areas: Identify key areas of focus for the upcoming year. These could be professional development, work-life balance, hobbies, projects, fitness, priorities, etc.

  4. Select Images and Words: As you browse through magazines or digital images (referring back to step 2), choose visuals and words that align with your vision. Be intentional about the messages and symbolism you include. Consider the emotional impact each element carries.

  5. Arrange: Arrange the chosen elements on a board in a way that resonates with you. There's no right or wrong way to do this—let your creativity flow.

  6. Reflect and Refine: Step back and take a moment to absorb the visual representation of your goals. Reflect on the synergy between the images and words. If needed, refine the arrangement to enhance coherence and clarity.

  7. Place Your Vision Board: Display your completed vision board in a prominent place where you'll see it daily. This visual reminder will reinforce your aspirations and keep you focused on your journey throughout the year. Personally, I share mine on social media for a sense of accountability to others, frame one in my office, and carry a copy in my backpack so I see it often and can reflect on it often.
